Aseer Ramadan Heritage: Community And Cultural Activities Highlight Spirituality And Solidarity
Aseer Region is preparing for the holy month of Ramadan with a broad programme of social, sports, and cultural activities. These events aim to support community cohesion, increase participation in volunteer work, and present options that suit both residents and visitors, while maintaining the region’s well-known Ramadan traditions and atmosphere.
This year, the most visible effort is the fourth edition of the "Ajawid" initiative, launched by Governor of Aseer Region Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz. The programme encourages volunteerism and community projects across the region’s governorates, creating organised frames for collective action during Ramadan.

The "Ajawid" initiative is built around six main tracks. These cover tourism destinations, investment, community development, culture and heritage, environmental sustainability, and urban design. Each track supports projects that serve local needs, with a focus on measurable community benefits during Ramadan and beyond.
"Ajawid" also functions as a competitive arena for charitable and social work during Ramadan. Youth groups, families, and local organisations are encouraged to present ideas, run activities, and provide services. The aim is to increase participation levels, strengthen solidarity, and highlight cooperative action as a practical expression of Ramadan values.
Popular markets in Aseer Region become particularly active in the days before Ramadan. These spaces turn into social meeting points where families and friends gather, exchange visits, and share preparations. Vendors offer local food items, traditional Ramadan dishes, and products from home-based entrepreneurs and artisans.
The role of these markets extends beyond trade. They continue a long-established habit of community gatherings, where neighbours strengthen social ties and exchange food items. This pattern reflects older practices in Aseer, when communities prepared together for the month through cooperation and shared effort.
Aseer Region Ramadan activities celebrating heritage and culture
Alongside social and economic activity, Aseer Region hosts cultural programmes linked to heritage and local customs. Heritage evenings in historical villages present traditional crafts, folk stories, and elements of local identity. These events allow visitors and residents to see how older practices are preserved within a modern setting.
Workshops and lectures on the history and heritage of southern Saudi Arabia are also being held. Organisers are preparing literary meetings and talks that address Ramadan values, such as generosity and social responsibility. These cultural activities add depth to the Ramadan experience and support awareness of the region’s cultural features.
Historically, welcoming Ramadan in Aseer Region has relied on strong community ties and mutual support. Families used to work together to prepare homes and secure food supplies. Residents also readied mosques and prayer areas, making sure they were equipped to receive worshippers for Tarawih and night prayers throughout the month.
The current efforts in Aseer Region show an integrated approach that brings together social, sports, and cultural dimensions. Through initiatives like "Ajawid" and a wide range of activities, the region seeks to provide a rich Ramadan experience for residents and visitors, while continuing practices that have preserved authentic local traditions across generations.
