Aseer Region's Fish Production Exceeds 4,000 Tons Valued At SAR 155 Million In 2024

Fish production along the Aseer region's coast has surged, surpassing 4,000 tons annually. This increase has resulted in a market value of SAR155 million for 2024. The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has implemented various incentive programs and initiatives to drive this growth. These efforts have significantly boosted the local fishing industry.

The Director of the Ministry's Aseer branch, Eng. Ahmed Al-Majthal, highlighted the economic importance of the region's coastal areas. He pointed out that the rich marine environment and high-quality fish stocks are vital assets. These resources generated SAR155 million in revenue for local fishermen in 2024.

Aseer Fish Production Exceeds 4,000 Tons

Al-Majthal stated that the ministry plans to increase production to 6,000 tons, valued at SAR165 million, within three years. This ambitious goal reflects the ministry's commitment to enhancing the fishing industry's contribution to the local economy.

Government support extends to 126 operational boats along Aseer's coast. Additionally, independent Saudi fishermen using private boats receive assistance. In a bid to further support these efforts, 35 more boats will be distributed soon.

A significant initiative involves transferring knowledge from experienced fishermen to younger generations. Currently, 85 veteran fishermen are mentoring newcomers entering the profession. This mentorship aims to sustain traditional fishing practices while encouraging innovation.

The ministry's Aseer branch recently hosted its first fish and marine heritage festival from January 8-11. The event featured 39 booths displaying a variety of seafood products. Families involved in cottage industries participated alongside government agencies and civil institutions.

Cultural and Educational Activities

The festival also included educational programs and awareness campaigns about marine life conservation. Demonstrations of fishing techniques were held, alongside sea trips and boat races. Traditional folkloric performances added cultural richness to the event.

Aseer's coastline stretches approximately 140 kilometers along the Red Sea. It encompasses diverse marine ecosystems such as coral reefs and mangrove forests. Tourist islands like Kadmbel Island are part of this vibrant coastal landscape.

This strategic approach by the Ministry aims to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability while preserving cultural heritage.
