The Visual Arts Commission has announced the details for the first Art Week Riyadh, scheduled from April 6 to 13, 2025. This event will highlight Saudi Arabia's lively art scene across various cultural venues like the JAX District and Al Mousa Center. It will gather local, regional, and international galleries, artists, collectors, and art lovers under the theme "At The Edge," showcasing Riyadh's vibrant cultural landscape.

The flagship exhibition, At The Edge, will be based in the JAX District. It will feature over 45 galleries from different parts of the world. These galleries will display curated works that delve into cultural dialogues between Saudi Arabia, the MENA region, and the global art scene. The exhibition is organized around three themes: Everyday Life, Landscapes, and Motifs.

These themes aim to highlight how tradition meets innovation and how local stories intertwine with global influences. The exhibition seeks to show contemporary creativity as a means of cultural expression and a trigger for dialogue. It reflects how Saudi visual culture is deeply rooted in tradition while engaging with global artistic trends.

In central Riyadh at the Al Mousa Center, more than 15 galleries will host solo and group exhibitions. These exhibitions will feature both established and new artists from the region and beyond. Once a commercial hub, Al Mousa Center now serves as a dynamic cultural space with about 20 art galleries.

The center's transformation into a cultural destination underscores its importance in promoting art within Riyadh. This venue provides an opportunity for both seasoned and emerging artists to showcase their work to a diverse audience.

Collections in Dialogue

The JAX District will also present three exhibitions titled Collections in Dialogue. These are organized in collaboration with major cultural institutions and private collections. They emphasize the crucial role of patronage and collecting in shaping visual culture while offering historical insights alongside contemporary relevance.

This initiative highlights how collecting art contributes to preserving visual culture by providing context through historical pieces while remaining relevant today. It showcases how collections can serve as bridges between past traditions and modern interpretations.

Engaging Activities

Art Week Riyadh includes high-profile talks and interactive workshops addressing current issues affecting visual arts locally and globally. These activities aim to engage participants in meaningful discussions about challenges facing artists today while exploring potential solutions through collaboration among stakeholders within this vibrant community.

The event promises an enriching experience for attendees by fostering dialogue on pressing topics impacting visual arts worldwide while celebrating Saudi Arabia's rich artistic heritage alongside contemporary expressions.

This inaugural edition of Art Week Riyadh aims to build upon an active art community foundation by fostering collaboration where visual arts can flourish for future generations. By honouring past achievements while embracing present innovations towards envisioning future possibilities within this dynamic field—this event seeks not only celebration but also inspiration among participants involved throughout its duration.
