Art Week Riyadh 2025 To Showcase Saudi Arabia's Vibrant Art Scene Across Cultural Venues
The Saudi Visual Arts Commission has announced the first Art Week Riyadh, scheduled for 6–13 April 2025. This event will showcase Saudi Arabia's vibrant art scene across various cultural venues in Riyadh, such as JAX District and Al Mousa Center. The week-long celebration will unite local, regional, and international galleries, artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts.
JAX District will be a focal point for exhibitions, featuring over 45 galleries from the Kingdom, the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond. These galleries will present curated selections that explore cultural dialogues between Saudi Arabia and the global contemporary art scene. The exhibitions aim to highlight the role of patronage and collecting in shaping visual culture.

The theme "At The Edge" guides this inaugural edition, focusing on Everyday Life, Landscapes, and Motifs. These themes reflect the intersections of tradition with innovation and local narratives with global influences. The flagship exhibition at JAX District will delve into these evolving cultural dialogues.
Princess Adwaa bint Yazeed bin Abdullah Al Saud leads Art Week Riyadh. She emphasises that this initiative believes in art's power to inspire and connect people. It aims to create a space where ideas intersect, reflecting Riyadh's dynamic growth through exceptional works.
A diverse cultural program titled "How to Art World? Lessons in Value" will take place at JAX District. This program includes talks and workshops addressing themes facing visual arts today. Local and global art institutions will participate in these discussions.
Additionally, a dedicated moving image program will explore complex narratives through works by Saudi and international artists. This medium highlights personal, cultural, and social stories through visual expression.
Showcasing Saudi Artistry
Al Mousa Center will host over 15 galleries presenting solo and group exhibitions tailored for Art Week Riyadh. These exhibitions highlight Saudi art pioneers alongside emerging talents. Participating galleries include AV Gallery, Abstract Art Gallery, and Wrd Art Gallery.
The event also offers a chance to visit prominent museums like the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art (SAMoCA). SAMoCA will feature exhibitions such as Art of the Kingdom and Adaptability Ceramics alongside experimental workshops.
Spotlight on Local Artists
Renowned Saudi artists like Ahmed Mater, Ayman Zedani, Marwah AlMugait, and Muhannad Shono will open their studios for visitors. This offers a unique opportunity for direct interaction with their creative processes.
Resident galleries Athr, Hafez, and Lift will present curated exhibitions along with panel discussions on contemporary art challenges. These activities aim to foster dialogue about current issues in the art world.
Cultural Heritage Meets Modern Innovation
The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) collection will be featured at JAX District. This presentation explores material memory's relationship with art transformations over time.
Art Jameel will showcase video art milestones in the region focusing on identity themes. Meanwhile, SRMG examines Saudi abstraction evolution through key figures like Al-Saleem alongside new practitioners reshaping this concept.
This initiative by the Saudi Visual Arts Commission seeks to enhance Riyadh's presence locally and internationally by celebrating its evolving cultural scene. It aims to create an engaging environment that honours past achievements while building towards future artistic endeavours.
