Art And Ideas Initiative Returns To Riyadh In December 2025 For Cultural Exchange

The Visual Arts Commission is set to host the next edition of its Art and Ideas initiative on 14–15 December 2025 at Prince Mohammad bin Salman City, also known as Misk City. Following successful events in Paris and Seoul, this new edition in Riyadh aims to conclude the year with a fresh programme. The initiative serves as a platform to present ideas that will influence the future of visual arts.

According to the commission's announcement, the theme "Art and Ideas: in Action" highlights the connection between theory and practice. It brings together experts from various creative fields like curation, media, and technology. These sessions aim to broaden audiences' understanding of the arts landscape by showcasing ideas shaping our current moment.

Art and Ideas Initiative Set for Riyadh

Dina Amin, CEO of the Visual Arts Commission, stated, "The initiative launched this year as a cross-city dialogue, traveling between Seoul and Paris. Today, it returns to its home—Riyadh under the theme ‘Art and Ideas: In Action.’ Riyadh now stands as a global platform for cultural exchange, collective exploration, and the building of lasting bridges between artistic communities, aligned with the commission’s vision to foster dialogue and to establish a thriving and sustainable artistic ecosystem."

The two-day event will feature four panel discussions and two keynote presentations with speakers from Saudi Arabia and beyond. Topics will cover intersections of visual arts with technology, learning, gaming, contemporary thought, future-ready art ecosystems, and community-driven initiatives.

This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia's ambition to create a significant movement in arts and culture. It supports diversity, encourages experimentation, and strengthens global connectivity by creating spaces for artists, curators, innovators, and cultural thinkers. This environment facilitates knowledge exchange and fosters creative dialogue.

The event aims to illuminate current issues affecting contemporary art while contributing to defining Saudi visual art's legacy in an ever-evolving world. By bringing together practitioners and experts, it sheds light on lived experiences that shape today's art landscape.

Misk City: A Hub for Innovation

Held in Misk City—a hub for arts within a broader cultural ecosystem—the event reflects a vision prioritising people and creativity in urban development. Misk City's innovative spaces attract artists by offering platforms for dialogue and exploration. This aligns with national efforts supporting initiatives like Zawaya and Afkar.

The "Art and Ideas: in Action" theme underscores the Visual Arts Commission's dedication to an evolving art landscape. It frames visual arts as records of their times while supporting diverse artistic expressions through collaborative exchanges.
