Aramco's $7.7 Billion Boost To Fadhili Gas Plant Aims For Higher Gas Production

Aramco, a global leader in integrated energy and chemicals, has announced the awarding of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts valued at $7.7 billion. These contracts are for the significant expansion of its Fadhili Gas Plant located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The initiative aims to boost the plant's processing capacity from the current 2.5 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD) to 4 BSCFD. This expansion is a strategic move to increase gas production by over 60% from the levels recorded in 2021 by the year 2030.

The completion of the Fadhili Gas Plant expansion is anticipated by November 2027. It is expected not only to enhance gas production capacities but also to contribute an additional 2,300 metric tons to daily sulfur production. Wail Al Jaafari, Aramco's Executive Vice President of Technical Services, highlighted the project's alignment with Aramco’s objectives. He stated, "These contracts reflect Aramco’s goal to increase natural gas supplies, help efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and free up more crude oil for value-added refining and export."

Aramco Expands Gas Plant Capacity

Al Jaafari further elaborated on the project's broader implications for sustainability and industry development. He mentioned, "Together with leading international companies, we are advancing our goal to increase gas production. The expansion also supports our ambition to develop a lower-carbon hydrogen business, while associated liquids from gas are an important feedstock for the petrochemical industry."

The contracts for this pivotal expansion project have been awarded to three major international firms: SAMSUNG Engineering Company, GS Engineering & Construction Corporation, and Nesma & Partners. This collaboration underscores Aramco's commitment to partnering with global leaders in engineering and construction to achieve its strategic objectives.

This expansion is a testament to Aramco's dedication towards enhancing its infrastructure to meet future energy demands while adhering to environmental sustainability standards. By increasing natural gas production and supporting the development of a lower-carbon hydrogen business, Aramco is positioning itself at the forefront of energy transition efforts globally.
