Aramco And China National Building Material Group Sign Five-Year Cooperation Agreement For Advanced Materials Development

Aramco has entered into a five-year Cooperation Framework Agreement with China National Building Material Group Co., Ltd. (CNBM). This collaboration aims to explore opportunities in advanced materials and industrial development. The agreement outlines potential projects, including manufacturing facilities in Saudi Arabia for wind turbine blades, hydrogen storage tanks, lower-carbon building materials, and energy storage solutions.

Additional areas of focus include establishing a training, inspection, and accreditation center. There is also a proposal for a joint technology development center and laboratory to foster innovation. These initiatives aim to enhance the capabilities of both companies in the field of advanced materials.

Aramco Partners with CNBM for Strategic Collaboration

Wail Al Jaafari, Aramco's Executive Vice President of Technical Services, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. He stated: "We look forward to expanding our efforts with CNBM as we pursue new breakthroughs in materials science that have the potential to deliver tangible benefits for the building sector and beyond." Al Jaafari highlighted the goal of reducing construction emissions and enhancing product performance through innovative solutions.

CNBM Chairman Zhou Yuxian emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation with Aramco. He remarked: "We attach great importance to strategic cooperation with Aramco. This agreement combines CNBM’s and Aramco’s respective strengths with the goal of win-win cooperation." Zhou noted that CNBM aims to support Aramco's efforts in advancing the materials transition by leveraging their expertise in low-carbon integrated solutions.

This new agreement builds on Aramco's existing relationship with CNBM. It follows the 2021 launch of the Nonmetallic Excellence and Innovation Center for Building Materials (NEXCEL) in Beijing. NEXCEL is a collaboration between Aramco and the China Building Materials Academy (CBMA), which is CNBM's science and technology branch.

The partnership aims to identify groundbreaking advances and new business opportunities while promoting further development of manufacturing capabilities within Saudi Arabia. By combining expertise from both companies, they seek to drive significant advancements in nonmetallic materials.

The collaboration between Aramco and CNBM represents a strategic alignment between China and Saudi Arabia. It envisions wide-ranging cooperation that could contribute positively to low-carbon development while strengthening ties between the two nations.
