Arafat: The Heart Of Hajj And A Towering Symbol Of Unity For Pilgrims

Today, on the ninth of Dhu Al-Hijjah, pilgrims gather at Arafat, a pivotal site in Hajj. This sacred place is essential for the pilgrimage, as Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated, "Hajj is Arafah." Pilgrims unite here in worship of Allah Almighty, showcasing their faith and devotion.

The plain of Arafat lies about 18 kilometers from Makkah's Grand Mosque. It is also 10 kilometers from Mina and 6 kilometers from Muzdalifah. Covering roughly five square kilometers, it is surrounded by mountains and known for its spiritual serenity. Unlike other Hajj sites, it has no permanent residents, and pilgrims do not stay overnight.

Arafat: Heart of Hajj and Unity

In recent years, Arafat has seen significant improvements under King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. As part of Vision 2030, the Saudi government has launched projects to enhance services for pilgrims. These efforts include shading and developing areas around Namira Mosque to improve comfort.

Kidana Development Company has shaded 85,000 square meters of Namira Mosque's courtyard with canopies and misting columns. They have also planted trees to improve the environment for pilgrims. Additionally, 60,000 square meters have been allocated for shaded walkways with misting fans to help mitigate heat.

Arafat currently benefits from a strong presence of government agencies across various sectors such as security, medical, and municipal services. Jabal Al-Rahma Hospital operates fully with health centers and first-aid stations ready to handle emergencies. Advanced electronic systems manage crowd control efficiently.

To assist pilgrims further, multilingual awareness teams are deployed throughout Arafat. The sermon delivered at Arafat will be translated into 34 languages simultaneously to ensure accessibility for all attendees. Smart applications aid pilgrims in navigating the area and keeping track of schedules.

A Symbol of Unity Among Muslims

Arafat stands as a powerful symbol of unity within the Islamic nation each year during Hajj. It represents a sacred space where the ultimate goals of Hajj are realized. The Kingdom reaffirms its commitment to serving Islam by mobilizing resources to support pilgrims effectively.

For centuries, Arafat has witnessed pilgrims arriving from all over the world under various conditions. In earlier times, simple tents and traditional travel methods made the journey challenging but spiritually rewarding. Today’s developments aim to ease these challenges while maintaining spiritual depth.
