Ministry Of Culture And ALECSO Unveil New Arabic Observatory Of Translation

The Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission at the Ministry of Culture has partnered with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) to introduce the Arabic Observatory of Translation. This initiative is crucial for supporting and monitoring translations to and from Arabic, a language spoken by over 350 million people globally.

Mohammed Hasan Alwan, CEO of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission, emphasised Saudi Arabia's leading role in promoting collaborative Arab cultural projects. According to Alwan, the observatory aims to build communication bridges and enrich cultural content throughout the Arab world.

New Arabic Translation Observatory

The observatory features a dedicated digital platform tailored to the needs of Arab translators. This platform will serve as a significant resource, offering a comprehensive database of translated works. Alwan noted that aspiring scholars and researchers would benefit from research grants focused on translation.

The platform will also establish important networks for translators and publishers, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing across the Arab world. This initiative marks ALECSO's first regional body in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in its 54-year history.

The observatory's key projects include research grants, monitoring and documenting translated books, and providing valuable resources for publishing houses and translators. The establishment of this observatory demonstrates a commitment to fostering a more vibrant and interconnected Arab world.

Through translation, the observatory aims to break down barriers, promote cultural exchanges, and enable knowledge sharing across the region. This initiative has the potential to significantly impact cultural collaboration within the Arab world.
