Arab Parliament Urges Global Parliaments To Act Against Israeli Attempts To Dismantle UNRWA
Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, has urged parliaments worldwide to act swiftly against Israeli efforts to dismantle the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). He communicated with parliamentary leaders globally, stressing the seriousness of these actions aimed at erasing UNRWA’s role and undermining Palestinian refugees' rights, especially their internationally recognized right of return.
Al-Yamahi emphasized that UNRWA is vital to the international community's commitment to Palestinian refugees’ rights and heritage. He stated that attempts to eliminate it are part of a broader strategy to nullify the refugees’ right to return, which violates international law and United Nations resolutions. He called for global cooperation to protect UNRWA’s mission and ensure it continues providing essential services as mandated under UN Resolution 194 of 1948.

The Arab Parliament speaker also appealed for a unified stance from international and regional parliaments in defending UNRWA. He urged governments to apply diplomatic pressure on Israeli authorities to stop these actions. Al-Yamahi highlighted the need for a "robust commitment to upholding international legitimacy, adherence to international law, and the cessation of prolonged violence and human rights violations against unarmed civilians, which have continued unabated for over a year."
He reiterated that there is no viable substitute for UNRWA in fulfilling its humanitarian and stabilizing roles. Al-Yamahi underscored that safeguarding UNRWA is crucial for regional stability and achieving a just, comprehensive peace. The agency's role is fundamental in maintaining stability in the region while pursuing peace.
Al-Yamahi’s call underscores the urgency of addressing these challenges through collective action. His appeal aims to ensure that UNRWA can continue its work without interference, maintaining its critical support for Palestinian refugees. The speaker's message highlights the importance of international solidarity in preserving refugee rights.
In his messages, Al-Yamahi stressed that eliminating UNRWA would undermine efforts towards peace and stability in the region. He called on global parliaments to recognize the gravity of this situation and take necessary steps to counteract any moves against UNRWA. This appeal reflects a broader concern about maintaining international commitments to refugee rights.
The Arab Parliament speaker’s statements reflect a deep concern over ongoing challenges faced by Palestinian refugees. His call for action emphasizes the need for sustained international support for UNRWA’s mission. By advocating for diplomatic pressure on Israel, Al-Yamahi seeks to ensure that Palestinian refugees' rights remain protected under international law.
