Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit Critiques Israel's Actions Undermining Regional Coexistence
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has highlighted that Israel's current strategy aims to eliminate the Palestinian community in Gaza. This involves either forced or voluntary displacement, dismantling the society and its institutions, and extinguishing hopes for a future independent state. He shared these views during the Extraordinary Arab Islamic Summit in Riyadh.
Aboul Gheit stated that Israel's actions are hindering coexistence prospects in the region and obstructing peace efforts based on justice. He stressed that the summit sends a clear message: the world cannot bear the consequences of ongoing violence threatening regional stability.

"The absence of accountability for Israel has emboldened it to pursue indescribable plans," said Aboul Gheit. He emphasised that the Middle East remains committed to establishing an independent Palestinian state along pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Secretary-General also addressed the situation in Lebanon, where bombings continue to claim innocent lives and destroy property. The civilian casualty count is rising, worsening conditions for one million displaced individuals in a nation already facing prolonged crises.
Aboul Gheit called for a ceasefire in Lebanon, stressing it must be linked to fully implementing Resolution no. 1701. This resolution aims to ensure security on both sides of the border. He concluded by highlighting the urgent need for action to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
The summit underscored that without holding Israel accountable, its aggressive policies will persist unchecked. The Arab League remains steadfast in advocating for a peaceful resolution that respects Palestinian aspirations for sovereignty and independence.
