Arab Government Sustainability Fellowship Marks Graduation Of Its Inaugural Cohort In Sustainability Leadership
The Arab Government Sustainability Fellowship has celebrated the graduation of its first group of participants. This initiative, a pioneering effort in the region, aims to empower public sector leaders in sustainability. It was organised by the UAE Government Development & Future Office, in collaboration with the Arab Administrative Development Organisation (ARADO) and the Posterity Institute. This achievement represents a significant step in enhancing environmental governance across Arab nations.
Ohood Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, emphasised the importance of sustainability in future governance. She stated, "Sustainability is at the core of future governance – it is key to preparing governments and societies for the rapid changes the region and the world will face in the coming years and decades across all areas of human activity."

Dr. Nasser Alqahtani, Director-General of ARADO, highlighted that sustainability requires cooperation across borders and sectors. He noted that ARADO supports transforming regional government institutions through this fellowship. The goal is to build a shared future based on innovation, resilience, and impact.
The fellowship aims to prepare new government leaders capable of addressing current climate, economic, and social challenges. Dr. Yasar Jarrar, Managing Director of the Posterity Institute, remarked that this programme marks a turning point in how sustainability is approached within the public sector.
Wael Ismail from PepsiCo stressed that climate change already affects the region significantly. He mentioned that addressing these impacts requires collaboration between governments and businesses. "This fellowship is a strong step toward building the skills and partnerships we need for a more sustainable future," he said.
The Irth Institute leads this flagship initiative to empower public sector leaders throughout the Arab World. The programme focuses on equipping them with skills necessary for driving sustainable development within their respective countries.
This fellowship underscores a commitment to fostering joint Arab action towards sustainability with clear objectives and tangible outcomes. It signifies a new era where regional governments take proactive roles in leading sustainability efforts.
