Arab Board General Surgery OSCE Exam Hosted At Aden's Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Hospital Advances Yemeni Medical Standards

Prince Mohammed bin Salman Hospital in Aden Governorate hosted the Arab Board examination in general surgery (OSCE), in partnership with the Yemeni Board of Medical Specialties. The event gathered candidates and examiners from several Yemeni governorates and other countries, highlighting regional cooperation in medical training and assessment.

The examination targeted 49 physicians at different stages of their specialist training in general surgery. A total of 17 consultant physicians supervised the OSCE, with examiners drawn from within Yemen and from abroad. This mix of expertise supported consistent standards in evaluating clinical skills and professional competence.

Arab Board OSCE in Aden Advances Healthcare

Hosting the Arab Board examination in general surgery at Prince Mohammed bin Salman Hospital highlighted the hospital’s operational readiness under the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY). The hospital has gained experience in organising specialised training programmes, which is helping raise healthcare standards and improve service quality in Aden and other governorates.

The OSCE format aims to strengthen physicians’ practical abilities and decision-making skills. It also encourages adherence to approved professional standards across the health system in Yemen. Through such exams, physicians gain structured opportunities for development that align with current international medical practices and support safer, more consistent patient care.

According to SDRPY reports, the programme implemented a range of health initiatives that improved efficiency and effectiveness in Yemeni healthcare services. These efforts made access to care easier, supported better quality standards, and helped provide training and employment chances for medical personnel across several governorates.

The development projects under SDRPY included constructing, equipping, rehabilitating, and operating hospitals and medical centres. They also involved enhancing the skills and capacity of medical staff through continuous training activities. These combined interventions have benefited more than 4 million people in Yemen, reflecting their broad social and health impact.

Support from SDRPY extended to 26 medical facilities located in nine Yemeni governorates, covering different levels of care. This network of supported institutions created an environment more suitable for hosting examinations such as the Arab Board examination in general surgery, and for running other specialised clinical training programmes. Such conditions contributed to better patient services, according to SPA.

The key figures linked to Prince Mohammed bin Salman Hospital’s role in the Arab Board examination in general surgery and the wider SDRPY health interventions are summarised below.
