Al Qasimia University Leads Global Dialogue on Media for Sustainability

Jamal Salim Al-Tarifi, the President of Al Qasimia University (AQU), inaugurated the Fifth International Student Media Forum, an event organized by the College of Communication. This year's forum, under the theme "Media for Sustainability" and carrying the slogan "Our Environment, Our Responsibility," aims to align with the United Arab Emirates' 2024 vision. This vision focuses on sustainable development goals, environmental preservation, and resource sustainability. The forum saw participation from media and environmental experts across 26 Arab and international universities from eighteen countries.

During his address, Prof. Awad AlKhalaf, Chancellor of Al Qasimia University, highlighted the forum's critical role in contributing to sustainability awareness. He pointed out the significant impact that communication and media students could have in enhancing awareness about sustainability. Their involvement is seen as crucial in shaping future communication strategies to foster a culture of sustainable development amidst global climate challenges.

Professor Hisham Abbas, Dean of the College of Communication, also emphasized the importance of the forum in today's changing global landscape. He noted that media content plays a vital role in sustainable operations, acting as a tool for development and reconstruction. Moreover, it serves to elevate behavior and embody the principles of sustainability.

The forum concluded with a final statement that included scientific recommendations aimed at harnessing the potential of media for environmental and social issues. It underscored the importance of utilizing technological advancements such as artificial intelligence, metaverse, and virtual and augmented reality. These technologies are seen as pivotal in contributing to media campaigns that raise awareness about environmental risks and their impact on the sustainability of natural resources.

This event not only showcased the collaborative efforts between various universities but also highlighted the growing recognition of media's role in promoting sustainable development goals. Through shared experiences and discussions, participants were able to explore innovative ways to utilize media as a tool for positive change in addressing global environmental challenges.
