Anbara Dates: The Luxurious And Prized Variety From Madinah Region
The Madinah region is well-known for its variety of date crops, with Anbara dates being particularly valued. Following Ajwa, Anbara ranks among the most renowned date varieties cultivated in this area. These medium-sized dates are late to ripen and have a unique rectangular form.
To maintain quality, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has established standard specifications. These standards promote local and international trade, encourage high-quality production, enhance economic returns for producers and exporters, and protect consumer interests.

In Saudi Arabia, Anbara dates are considered rare due to their challenging cultivation requirements. The palm trees have a weak structure that demands pruning and thinning for optimal fruit production. Each palm tree typically yields no more than 70 kilograms annually.
Anbara dates come in three grades: excellent, first, and second. Excellent grade dates weigh at least 13 grams each, with no more than 38 dates in a 500-gram package. First-grade dates must weigh a minimum of 10 grams each, with up to 50 dates per 500-gram package.
The second grade represents the minimum standard, where each date weighs at least 6 grams and a 500-gram package contains no more than 83 dates. These dates are cherished for their rarity, striking dark red color, and pleasant aroma.
Anbara dates are often given as gifts due to their unique qualities. They are monosaccharide dates, meaning their sugar content primarily consists of glucose and fructose.
