American University Of Sharjah And Università Iuav Di Venezia Establish Academic Partnership For Student Exchange And Research

The American University of Sharjah (AUS) and Università Iuav di Venezia (IUAV) have formed a new partnership to enhance academic, research, and professional opportunities for students and faculty. This collaboration is formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which outlines plans for undergraduate student exchanges, research collaborations, and professional development initiatives. The MoU was signed during a meeting at IUAV with Noora Al Suwaidi, Director of the AUS International Exchange Office, and Professor Benno Albrecht, Rector of Università Iuav di Venezia.

Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, highlighted the significance of this partnership by stating that IUAV is renowned for its expertise in architecture, urban planning, restoration, arts, theatre, and design. He noted that this collaboration offers an exciting opportunity for AUS to enhance its academic and research offerings through joint projects and cross-cultural exchanges. "This partnership will open exciting new pathways for AUS and IUAV’s students, faculty and researchers to collaborate and create internationally," he said.

Professor Benno Albrecht expressed enthusiasm about the agreement with AUS as it strengthens ties with the Gulf region. He emphasised the importance of continuous exchange between Venice and Sharjah in developing shared expertise in urban design, architecture, and the arts. "I believe Venice will increasingly embrace its historical role as a bridge between the East and the West, the Mediterranean and the Middle East," he stated.
