American University Of Sharjah Partners With Amazon Web Services To Enhance Cloud Research Capabilities
The American University of Sharjah (AUS) is partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance its research capabilities and promote cloud technology adoption. This collaboration aims to provide AUS with the necessary technical and strategic support to strengthen its digital infrastructure. AWS will assist in expanding cloud fluency within the university community, ensuring a robust foundation for future advancements.
A key component of this partnership is the establishment of a Cloud Center of Excellence at AUS. This center will spearhead initiatives to encourage cloud integration, develop governance frameworks, and guide digital transformation efforts. Through various activities like training programs and knowledge-sharing platforms, the center aims to build AWS expertise within the university while aligning cloud projects with long-term goals.

Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, emphasized the importance of this agreement: "This agreement positions AUS at the forefront of cloud-powered research and academic innovation. By working closely with AWS, we are creating an ecosystem that enables our faculty and students to engage with the world’s most advanced technologies and apply them to the challenges of today and tomorrow. This is a strategic investment in our academic mission, institutional capacity and regional impact."
AWS will provide AUS access to its technical experts and solutions architects for ongoing support. This assistance will help design and optimize cloud environments tailored to meet the university's research and academic requirements. The collaboration includes AWS Immersion Days focused on enhancing research workflows, data analytics, cost management, and cloud security.
Dr. Steve Griffiths, Professor and Vice Chancellor for Research at AUS, highlighted: "This collaboration is foundational to the new research strategy being implemented at AUS. By integrating AWS cloud infrastructure into our research ecosystem, we are enabling our researchers to operate with greater agility, efficiency and security. It opens up new possibilities for how we evolve the research agenda at AUS."
AWS-certified speakers will also participate in on-campus events at AUS. These events aim to showcase case studies and best practices while exploring practical applications of cloud technologies in research. Such engagements help scholars connect innovation with real-world impact.
The partnership between AUS and AWS reflects a shared vision for empowering higher education through cloud technology. It seeks to advance research, innovation, and institutional excellence in today's digital age.
