AMAALA Launches Professional Sailing Team To Promote Ocean Science And Sustainability In The Ocean Race Europe 2025

Red Sea Global has unveiled Team AMAALA, a new sailing team set to compete in The Ocean Race Europe 2025. This prestigious race spans several stages from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea. The inclusion of Team AMAALA signifies Red Sea Global's deepening involvement with sailing and its dedication to ocean conservation and sustainability.

The team will be captained by Swiss sailor Alan Roura, known for his extensive ocean racing experience and achievements in the IMOCA class for high-performance yachts measuring 60 feet (18.3 meters). His leadership is expected to bring expertise and success to Team AMAALA.

AMAALA Introduces New Sailing Team for Ocean Science

John Pagano, CEO of Red Sea Global, expressed the company's vision: "We are building integrated destinations guided by science and inspired by nature, aiming to enhance the well-being of humans, society, and nature together." He emphasized that conscious tourism can drive positive change and empower destinations to thrive sustainably.

Pagano further stated: "Through The Ocean Race Europe and the participation of Team AMAALA, we have a global platform to highlight this solidarity for a shared future. If there is a time when the world needs a collective will to protect our oceans and natural inspiration for sailors, this is the right time."

The inaugural race will occur in Europe this summer. In 2026, a transatlantic race from New York to Barcelona is planned. By 2027, a round-the-world race will conclude at the AMAALA destination on the Red Sea coast. This marks the first time such an event concludes in this region.

In 2024, AMAALA was chosen as the final stage destination for the 15th edition of the race in 2027. This decision highlights Red Sea Global's growing influence within international sailing circles.

Scientific Collaboration

As part of its involvement in The Ocean Race Europe, AMAALA will support the race's science program during both the 2025 European edition and the 2027 global race. This program collects vital ocean data like water temperature, salinity levels, oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations, microplastic particles, and environmental DNA.

This data aids international scientific organizations in understanding changes in European waters. During the previous round-the-world race in 2023, over four million data points were collected for research purposes.

Partnerships and Impact

"Corallium," a marine life center affiliated with AMAALA, benefits from this data. Scheduled to open later this year, it aims to be a global hub for ocean conservation education and awareness.

Red Sea Global's partnership with The Ocean Race began in 2023. It underscores their mutual commitment to promoting ocean health through education and environmental awareness initiatives.

This collaboration enhances Red Sea Global's identity while providing an international platform that strengthens its global standing within the sailing community.
