AlUla: A Thriving Oasis Bolstering Regional Agriculture And Economy

AlUla Governorate, renowned for its vibrant agricultural sector, significantly contributes to the economic development of the region. Serving as a crucial "food basket," it supplies an extensive range of produce not only to its residents but also to those in adjacent areas such as Madinah, Jeddah, Tabuk, Hail, and Riyadh. The governorate's agricultural success is attributed to its ideal climate and fertile soil, fostering a diverse array of crops.

Date palms stand out as a key agricultural product in AlUla, thriving alongside an assortment of citrus fruits, mangoes, grapes, pomegranates, figs, and grains. The region's farms also yield substantial quantities of barley, corn, legumes, and a variety of vegetables including tomatoes, eggplants, okra, onions, peppers, and leafy greens. This rich agricultural production not only feeds the local community but also attracts visitors to its dedicated festivals and events.

AlUla: Oasis of Agricultural Growth

Recent statistics from the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate's agriculture center highlight the scale of this production. Annually, the governorate boasts a production of 127,000 tons of fruit across over 18,000 hectares. Grain crops also see robust yields, with production exceeding 800 tons annually on more than 200 hectares. Additionally, fodder production is a significant area of focus, with over 40,000 tons produced on an area surpassing 2,000 hectares.

The cultivation of outdoor winter vegetables is another vital aspect of AlUla's agriculture, with production exceeding 1,565 tons annually on more than 60 hectares. Summer vegetables grown outdoors add to this bounty, with over 2,150 tons produced annually on an area of 101 hectares. Moreover, protected vegetable farms that utilize controlled environments contribute over 1,500 tons annually on approximately 25 hectares.

A recent tour by a Saudi Press Agency reporter offered a glimpse into the diverse crops flourishing across AlUla's fertile lands. This exploration documented the extensive agricultural activities that underpin the region's economy and food supply. With such a wide range of produce available, AlUla continues to support not only its own residents but also those in neighboring regions through its thriving agricultural sector.
