AlUla's Unique Terrains Offer Ideal Setting For Endurance Racing Ahead Of 2026 Championship

The AlUla Governorate's diverse landscapes offer a prime setting for endurance races. Its natural trails and unique geological features span valleys, plains, and deserts. This environment is perfect for testing horses and riders to international standards, adding a competitive edge to the sport.

AlUla's racecourses are known for their smoothness and variety. They feature hard sandy terrain, rocky paths, and open spaces. These courses pass through rare rock formations, creating a cohesive natural landscape that enhances the technical level of races and enriches the experience for participants and spectators alike.

In preparation for hosting the 2026 FEI Endurance World Championship, AlUla is developing a new course. This course will traverse the ancient archaeological site of Hegra, Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. This adds a unique cultural dimension to the event.

The organization of these races results from a partnership between the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), the Saudi Equestrian Federation (SAEF), and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU). Their collaboration aims to develop endurance riding, achieve top organizational standards, and enhance Saudi Arabia's global presence in this sport.

Among its strategic projects, AlUla's RCU has established the Al Fursan Equestrian Village. This comprehensive facility supports equestrian races with advanced infrastructure for riders and teams while preserving the natural environment in line with sustainable development goals.

AlUla has previously hosted several notable endurance races, including the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup, recognized as the world's richest endurance race. The success of these events contributed to Saudi Arabia being chosen to host the 2026 FEI Endurance World Championship.

This achievement further solidifies AlUla's status as an annual destination for riders worldwide. It combines sport, nature, and history in a unique blend that attracts participants from around the globe.
