AlUla Launches Citrus Season 2025 To Boost Agritourism And Local Economy
The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is set to host the Citrus Season 2025 from January 3 to 11, aligning with the peak harvest period. This initiative highlights RCU's dedication to bolstering the agricultural sector and positioning AlUla as a leading agritourism hub. The event aims to drive economic growth through community-centric projects and sustainable development efforts.
AlUla's Citrus Season offers a crucial platform for local farmers to market their produce, which yields thousands of tons of fruit annually between November and February. This significantly contributes to the region’s agricultural and economic development. The event will highlight the diverse citrus fruits grown in AlUla, which boasts over 5,000 farms with 405,000 trees across 29 varieties.

The Citrus Season is designed to stimulate economic growth by showcasing AlUla’s rich agricultural heritage. It features exhibition spaces for local families and farmers, various events for residents and visitors, and a training course. This course aims to equip families and chefs with skills to use citrus fruits in diverse culinary creations.
AlUla's farms cover 701 hectares, producing 14,000 tons of citrus fruit annually. This accounts for a significant portion of Saudi Arabia's total annual citrus production of 160,000 tons. Such figures underscore AlUla’s vital role in strengthening the national agricultural sector and supporting economic diversification.
The RCU prioritizes developing AlUla’s agricultural sector to expand economic opportunities and increase producer competitiveness. By creating opportunities for local residents and offering unique visitor experiences through interactive activities, the importance of agriculture to the region’s present and future is highlighted.
Alongside the AlUla Dates Season, the Citrus Season serves as a key economic driver by promoting AlUla’s agricultural heritage. Dates and citrus fruits are essential in supporting the local economy and enhancing the presence of AlUla products in local and regional markets.
This year’s Citrus Season will also feature a variety of events tailored for both residents and visitors. These initiatives align with RCU’s goals of achieving sustainable development while advancing AlUla's reputation as an agritourism destination.
The Royal Commission for AlUla remains committed to supporting agriculture as a cornerstone of its strategy. By focusing on sustainability and community involvement, it seeks to ensure long-term benefits for both local farmers and the broader economy.
