AlUla Announces Inaugural Arab Camel Cup And World Championship Events

The Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate has unveiled its ambitious plans to position AlUla as a leading destination for traditional sports in the region, with the announcement of hosting the first-ever Arab Camel Cup alongside the World Camel Endurance Championship. This initiative is in partnership with the Arab and International Camel Federations, marking a significant step towards promoting cultural and sports tourism in the area.

Set against the backdrop of the Mughira Heritage Sports Village, the Arab Camel Cup is slated for May 3. This event will see elite camels from 15 different countries competing across 13 rounds, with a total prize pool exceeding SAR3 million. The competition aims to celebrate and preserve the rich heritage of camel racing, a sport deeply ingrained in regional culture and history.

AlUla to Host Camel Championships

Following closely on May 4, the World Camel Endurance Championship promises to be a test of stamina and skill for both camels and jockeys from around the world. Competitors will vie for a share of SAR2 million in prizes over two stages, covering a challenging distance of 16 kilometers. The championship is unique in its inclusivity, welcoming both male and female participants across two categories, employing traditional riding techniques such as Hail, Thanaya Bakkar, Zamoul, and Thanaya Qadan.

Victory in this endurance challenge comes with significant rewards; each first-place winner in the two categories will receive SAR500,000. The remainder of the prize money will be distributed among winners in other categories, ensuring wide recognition and reward for exceptional skill and perseverance.

This dual event not only highlights AlUla's commitment to reviving and promoting traditional sports but also underscores its potential as a prime destination for cultural tourism. By hosting such prestigious international competitions, AlUla is set to attract enthusiasts and spectators from across the globe, further enriching its cultural landscape and economic vitality.

The Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate's initiative reflects a broader vision to celebrate cultural heritage while fostering international sportsmanship. As these competitions draw near, all eyes will be on AlUla, eagerly anticipating the blend of tradition and competition that these championships promise to deliver.
