Dr. Mohammed Bin Saud Altamimi Emphasises Saudi Arabia's Role In Space For Sustainable Development Goals

The Saudi Space Agency's CEO, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Altamimi, recently attended an event titled "Space for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals." This gathering took place at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and was organised by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs. The event focused on enhancing global cooperation in space to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During his address, Dr. Altamimi underscored Saudi Arabia's expanding influence in the space sector. He stressed the significance of using space technologies to tackle urgent global challenges like climate change and natural disaster mitigation. He highlighted that Saudi Arabia is actively developing programs through its Space Agency to promote innovation and utilise space technologies for Earth observation and climate action.

The event attracted notable attendees such as NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, Germany's State Secretary Dr. Jorg Kukies, Colombia's Minister of Information and Communication Technology Mauricio Lizcano, South Africa's Minister of Trade and Industry Ebrahim Patel, and the Philippines' Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo. These figures gathered to discuss the latest advancements in satellite data visualisation for space exploration and Earth observation.

The primary aim of the event was to demonstrate how satellite data can be used effectively in climate action and disaster risk reduction, aligning with the SDGs. By showcasing cutting-edge technologies, participants explored methods to visualise satellite data within the context of space exploration.
