Discover Alqan Heritage Village: A Historical Gateway In Tabuk Region

The ancient village of Alqan, situated in the Tabuk Region's Alqan Center, is a significant cultural and architectural heritage site. Known for its structures made from clay and natural red stone, these buildings are topped with roofs crafted from tree trunks and palm fronds. This village serves as a historical reminder of the center's establishment by King Abdulaziz in 1934.

Originally, Alqan's 20 buildings were designated for the first state employees and housed several government offices. The Heritage Commission has included this village in the National Register of Architectural Heritage in Tabuk Region. This registration is part of ongoing efforts to document and digitize heritage sites throughout Saudi Arabia.

Alqan Heritage Village: A Cultural Landmark

Alqan Heritage Village is located approximately 170 kilometers northwest of Tabuk City. It is surrounded by unique mountain formations and red dunes, creating a stunning landscape. Built on a hill at the mountain's base, the village showcases an artistic urban design that considers environmental factors like wind direction and rainwater flow.

The builders of Alqan carefully selected locations based on safety, privacy, and ideal living conditions. The area is known for its frequent snowfall during winter, attracting tourists seeking winter experiences. Notably, one of the heaviest snowstorms recorded here occurred in 1945, lasting nine days.

Below the village lies the Alqan Customs Port, established in 1965. Nearby ancient wells once provided essential water sources for the town and surrounding communities. Among these wells is "Abu Al-Alaq Well," believed to be linked to the name "Alqan," which might have originated from sediments that clouded its waters.

Snowfall Events and Tourism

Alqan experienced another significant snowstorm in mid-Ramadan of 1965, which lasted for seven days. These weather events contribute to its popularity as a winter tourism destination. The area's breathtaking scenery further enhances its appeal to visitors seeking unique experiences.

The village's location at the foothills of towering mountains adds to its charm. The thoughtful design reflects the nomadic people's attention to environmental factors when choosing safe and private locations for settlement.

In summary, Alqan stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia's rich cultural heritage. Its historical significance, combined with natural beauty and unique weather patterns, makes it an intriguing destination for both history enthusiasts and tourists alike.
