Alliance Of Virtue Sets Stage For Global Peace Meeting In New York This September

The new Alliance of Virtue (Hilf al-Fudul) announced an international event on 21st September to celebrate the International Day of Peace. This event, organised in collaboration with partners, will take place alongside the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The announcement followed a rotating meeting of the Executive Committee held on 12th and 13th August in Washington, D.C. Dr. William Fray Vendley chaired the meeting, which included Sheikh Al Mahfouz bin Bayyah, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum, and other notable members.

During this meeting, discussions focused on the Alliance's semi-annual operational plan and current challenges faced by peacemakers and religious leaders. The committee aimed to address these issues effectively to promote peace globally.

In his speech, Dr. William Fray Vendley praised the UAE for its steadfast support of peace initiatives. He highlighted the UAE's commitment to building a civilisational model based on virtue and human fraternity. Dr. Vendley also expressed gratitude to the US government for its support and cooperation with the Alliance.

Sheikh Al Mahfouz bin Bayyah attended the meeting under Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah's guidance, Head of the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace. He conveyed a message of hope to advance peace efforts and reaffirmed the Forum's dedication to global peace.

Vision for Global Peace

Sheikh Al Mahfouz bin Bayyah emphasised the importance of achieving peace goals and aspirations. He noted that these goals serve as guideposts for virtuous societies, enlightened minds, and good souls aiming for global harmony.

The Alliance of Virtue's charter was ratified in Abu Dhabi in 2019. It aims to highlight and operationalise religious values that promote peace and human fraternity.

This initiative underscores a collective effort towards fostering global peace through collaboration among various stakeholders. The upcoming event on 21st September is a significant step in this ongoing journey.
