Alia Bint Khalid Al Qassimi Takes Leadership Role At UAE National Orchestra To Enhance Cultural Innovation
The UAE National Orchestra has appointed Sheikha Alia bint Khalid Al Qassimi as its new Managing Director. Her vast experience in the UAE's cultural and creative sectors will guide the Orchestra's strategic path, promoting innovation and enhancing its status as a premier cultural entity. "I am honoured to take on the role of Managing Director of the UAE National Orchestra. This is a collective endeavour, and I look forward to working with a dedicated team to shape a dynamic future for music in the UAE," Al Qassimi commented.
The Orchestra also welcomes Amine Kouider, an internationally acclaimed conductor, as its Artistic Director. Kouider brings over 30 years of expertise in blending Eastern and Western musical traditions. He has led prominent orchestras in France and the region, founded the International Philharmonic Orchestra – Paris, and was awarded the title of Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters of France.

Kouider emphasised their mission: "Our mission is to honour the UAE's cultural legacy while encouraging musical exploration and innovation." The aim is to create an environment where musicians can experiment with new sounds and styles, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and celebrating the UAE's musical heritage globally.
The Orchestra seeks talented individuals aged 18 and above for full-time roles in both Arabic and Western ensembles. These positions offer competitive salaries and a chance to contribute to a unique musical repertoire that includes Western chamber music, Emirati compositions, and innovative works that merge diverse cultures and sounds.
Interested instrumentalists and singers must submit high-quality video recordings showcasing their skills. These submissions will help assess technical abilities and artistic expression. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an in-person audition in Abu Dhabi before a panel of judges with expertise in technical and artistic fields.
Each audition category has specific repertoire requirements detailed on the official website. Musicians should visit http://www.UAENationalOrchestra.ae to review guidelines, complete applications, and submit recordings as instructed. The deadline for applications is 26th January 2025.
Al Qassimi expressed her vision: "This Orchestra represents more than music; it is a symbol of our commitment to celebrating cultural heritage and fostering creative excellence. I am deeply inspired by the opportunity to lead this initiative and look forward to positioning the UAE as a hub for musical innovation and cultural exchange."
Candidates will be selected based on merit, demonstrating exceptional musical proficiency during auditions. This initiative aims to bring together diverse voices that reflect the UAE's rich cultural landscape while pushing boundaries in musicianship.
The UAE National Orchestra's efforts highlight its dedication to nurturing talent while honouring tradition. By integrating various musical styles, it seeks to establish itself as a centre for cultural exchange, enriching both local and global audiences through innovative performances.
