ALECSO Executive Council Concludes 124th Session With Significant Resolutions For Future Governance

The Executive Council of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), led by Saudi Arabia, convened its 124th session in Cairo on December 3–4. Several resolutions were adopted, including forming a committee to enhance the organization's governance framework and establishing another to draft a mechanism for selecting experts. Additionally, the council approved the 2026 joint training program and initiated the Arab Center for Career Development.

During this session, member states praised Saudi Arabia for its leadership in advancing the committee's work on developing the General Conference mechanism. This committee, proposed and chaired by Saudi Arabia since January 2025, has made significant progress in identifying challenges and suggesting practical solutions. The council recommended that this committee present its final report to the General Conference in March 2026.

The meeting saw robust participation from all Arab states, who actively proposed initiatives and adopted resolutions. This collective effort underscores the council's ongoing commitment to achieving ALECSO's objectives in education, culture, and science. The active engagement of member states highlights their dedication to implementing these initiatives effectively.

At the session's conclusion, it was agreed that an extraordinary meeting would be held in March 2026 to review ALECSO's budget. This decision aims to provide additional time for consultation and coordination among member states. It ensures that their observations and recommendations are thoroughly considered before finalizing the budget.

The council emphasized the importance of allowing ample time for consultation with relevant committees. This approach ensures that all member states' feedback is incorporated into future plans. The extraordinary meeting scheduled for March 2026 will facilitate this process by providing a platform for further discussion and coordination.

The resolutions adopted during this session reflect ALECSO's commitment to advancing its objectives across education, culture, and science fields.
