Al Wahda And Baniyas Clinch Titles At Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup, Abu Dhabi

The Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup, a prestigious event held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi from 15th to 16th March, concluded with Al Wahda Club Jiu-Jitsu Academy and Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club emerging as champions in the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively. This championship, dedicated to adult athletes, showcased the nation's top male and female jiu-jitsu competitors.

Al Wahda Club demonstrated exceptional technical skills and resilience in the men’s division, overcoming the defending champions, Baniyas, and claiming the title that had eluded them for the past four years. In a parallel narrative of skill and determination, Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club retained their title in the women’s division, with Al Wahda improving their standing from third to second place compared to last year’s results. Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club also made a notable impact by securing third place in both divisions.

Jiu-Jitsu Cup Winners: Al Wahda, Baniyas

The event was graced by Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa bin Sultan Al Nahyan, UAE Ambassador to Qatar, who, alongside Abdulmunem Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAEJJF, and Youssef Al Batran, UAEJJF Board Member, crowned the winners. Alhashmi expressed his gratitude towards Sheikh Zayed for his presence and commended the exceptional organization and dedication that marked this year's competition as the strongest ever.

Obaid Meftah, Chairman of Al Wahda Sports Group Company, shared his joy over winning the men’s division title after a four-year wait. He dedicated this victory to H.H.Theyab bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of Al Wahda Club. Similarly, Salem Nayef Al Kathiri from Baniyas Club extended congratulations to H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan for their success in the women’s division and highlighted the unwavering support from leadership as a key factor in their achievements.

Among the standout moments was Omar Alsuwaidi of Al Wahda club's victory over Zayed Alktheri of Baniyas in the men’s finals. Alsuwaidi emphasized that beyond individual victories, it was about honoring their country. In the women's category, Balqees Al Hashmi's win against Aysha Al Shamsi was a highlight, showcasing sportsmanship and competitive spirit.

Khaled Al Shehhi from Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club reflected on his team's performance and expressed determination to learn from this experience for future competitions. This year's Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup not only celebrated individual and team triumphs but also underscored the growing talent and competitive spirit within UAE's jiu-jitsu community.
