Al Salam Cycling Championship's Desert Race Set For February 9, 2025, In Dubai's Al Marmoom Reserve

The Desert Race, part of the ninth Al Salam Cycling Championship, is set for Sunday, 9 February 2025. This event is under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Organised by the Private Office of His Highness, it is recognised as the largest community cycling event globally in terms of diversity and prize value.

Taking place at the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve, the race offers two routes: Sarouq Al Hadid (52 km) and Al Ashoosh (57 km). Participants will navigate through sand dunes and rocky trails. A timed sprint segment at Areeqib Brashi adds to the challenge. Safety is paramount; cyclists must wear helmets, protective eyewear, and hydration packs. Mountain bikes with front and rear lights are mandatory.

Desert Race of Al Salam Championship Starts Tomorrow

Omair bin Jumaa Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of His Highness and Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, confirmed all preparations are complete. "Each race is meticulously designed to foster competition and reward excellence among cyclists," he stated. The event aims to promote a healthier lifestyle by leveraging Dubai’s cycling infrastructure.

The championship offers 44 financial prizes for top finishers in both races. Additionally, winners of the sprint challenge will be honoured. Six Emiratis and six residents—three under 40 and three over 40—will be recognised in each sprint race. The event highlights Dubai as a global cycling-friendly destination.

The championship began in December with the Sword of Honour race, celebrating H.Hi. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's graduation from Sandhurst. This was followed by the Ruler’s Court Elite Men’s Cycling Race on 19 January 2025, covering a 193 km route through Dubai's landmarks.

Upcoming Women's Race

The championship concludes with the Women’s Race on 16 February 2025 at Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve. It features two races: a 107 km race for Emirati cyclists and a 136 km elite race open to all resident female athletes and GCC Cycling Federation members.

Strategic partners like Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Sports Channel, UAE Cycling Federation (General Referee), and Dubai Film Company collaborate in organising this event. Their support ensures adherence to desert cycling regulations along the race route.

With comprehensive planning and collaboration from various entities, this championship not only promotes sports but also positions Dubai as a hub for cycling enthusiasts worldwide.
