Al Rabeeah Addresses Humanitarian Challenges At High-Level UN Event In New York

Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, participated in a high-level event titled "Building a Better World Together: The Future of Humanitarian Action." This event took place alongside the Summit of the Future during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Al Rabeeah emphasised the importance of aligning global humanitarian efforts with the United Nations Charter and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He noted that addressing challenges like international humanitarian law violations, displacement, conflicts, and natural disasters requires effective mechanisms to avoid overburdening aid systems.

Al Rabeeah on Humanitarian Action at UN Event

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains dedicated to humanitarian initiatives through KSrelief. Since its inception in 2015, KSrelief has collaborated with 192 organisations to execute over 3,000 projects across 102 countries, investing $7 billion. Al Rabeeah highlighted this commitment during his speech.

He underscored that achieving successful outcomes necessitates sustainable solutions through innovative measures and accountability to affected populations. This approach is crucial for future humanitarian success.

Al Rabeeah discussed the Saudi Masam Project, a key initiative by KSrelief aimed at removing explosives in Yemen. This project has cleared over 460,000 mines, enhancing public safety and access to healthcare, education, and livelihoods while contributing to several SDGs.

The event provided an opportunity to consider how multilateral approaches can address challenges and enhance collective efforts for a better world. Al Rabeeah stressed the importance of integrating humanitarian action with development and peace efforts through a comprehensive framework.

Collaborative Efforts for Global Improvement

"By working hand in hand," Al Rabeeah stated, "we can alleviate human suffering, empower communities, address root causes of crises, and promote respect for international humanitarian law and principles." He emphasised ensuring equal opportunities for all and fostering hope for a better world.

The high-level side event was co-hosted by various organisations including the International Council for Voluntary Agencies, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, InterAction, United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, UNHCR, UNICEF, Saudi Arabia, African Union, Slovenia, and Spain.

This gathering served as a platform to reflect on how collaborative efforts can effectively respond to global challenges. It highlighted the need for integrated approaches that combine humanitarian action with development and peace initiatives.
