Al Qassimi Hospital Treats High Blood Pressure With Innovative Paradise System

The Cardiac Catheterisation Unit at Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, part of Emirates Health Services, has recently achieved a significant milestone in the treatment of high blood pressure. This month, the unit successfully completed three procedures using the innovative "Paradise" system, marking a new era in catheterisation techniques within the region. The patients, aged between 45 and 75, had been struggling with unstable blood pressure despite undergoing treatment with over four different types of medications.

The "Paradise" system represents a novel approach in the management of hypertension by targeting the sympathetic nerves surrounding the renal arteries through a process that involves precise heating and isolation. This method utilizes ultrasound waves that penetrate the artery wall to a depth of 1-6 millimetres, employing balloons ranging from 3.5 mm to 8 mm to deliver 2 to 4 waves per artery, each lasting about 7 seconds.

Dr. Essam Al Zarooni, Acting Executive Director of Clinical Services Sector at EHS, highlighted the organization's commitment to innovation and the adoption of the latest medical technologies. The introduction of the "Paradise" system at Al Qassimi Hospital underscores EHS' dedication to enhancing treatment processes and providing exceptional medical services to the community.

Dr. Arif Al Nooryani, Director of Al Qassimi Hospital, stressed the importance of these catheterisation procedures for patients with unstable high blood pressure. By offering a precise and efficient treatment option, these interventions aim to improve patients' quality of life and reduce the risks associated with heart attacks and strokes. Dr. Al Nooryani also pointed out that this initiative reflects Emirates Health Services' ongoing efforts to incorporate advanced technologies in healthcare.

The procedure using the "Paradise" system typically lasts about an hour, with patients being discharged from the hospital within 24 hours. The cost for this operation ranges from AED40,000 to AED60,000. It is also worth mentioning that Al Qassimi Hospital's Cardiology Department has been at the forefront of treating high blood pressure with thermal ablation catheters since 2011, further establishing its role as a leader in medical innovation both locally and globally.
