Dubai: Al Mizhar Road Sees Major Expansion By RTA To Boost Traffic Flow

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently completed significant infrastructure improvements in the Al Mizhar area, specifically on Streets A11 and A26. The project, which extended the streets from two to four lanes across a 6.8 km stretch, aims to alleviate congestion and enhance the flow of traffic, effectively doubling the road capacity to accommodate 2,400 vehicles per hour. This development is a strategic part of RTA's broader vision for traffic solutions by 2024, addressing the needs of a rapidly growing population in Dubai.

According to Hussein Al Banna, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, the enhancements extend beyond widening the roads. The addition of 90 new lighting poles on the mentioned streets aims to improve safety and visibility, a crucial aspect for both drivers and pedestrians. Furthermore, the project has introduced 551 extra parking slots, a move that directly benefits local schools and residents by addressing parking scarcity.

Another notable feature of this infrastructure upgrade is the 5.7 km cycling track, part of Dubai's initiative to promote eco-friendly modes of transport. "Dubai is focused on providing integrated infrastructure to encourage the use of soft and individual transit means," stated Al Banna. This initiative underscores Dubai's commitment to becoming a bicycle-friendly city, encouraging residents to adopt healthier transport alternatives and fostering a culture of physical activity.

Improvements were not limited to road expansions and enhanced lighting. The project also saw the optimization of traffic flow at key intersections. By relocating the traffic light from the intersection of Street 5 and Algeria Street to Algeria Street and Street 11, waiting times have been drastically reduced from 2.1 minutes to just 50 seconds. Additionally, the introduction of two new roundabouts on Street 26A aims to facilitate smoother turning movements, benefiting the road's approximately one million users.

RTA's ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow in Dubai will continue beyond these recent enhancements. With plans to improve traffic flow at over 45 locations across the city, RTA's initiatives are crucial for supporting sustainable growth and maintaining Dubai's status as a city with one of the best road networks globally. This comprehensive approach to infrastructure development reflects Dubai's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents and ensuring the efficiency of its transport systems.
