Al Jalila Foundation And Positive Zero Sign Landmark Decarbonisation Agreement

Al Jalila Foundation, leading Dubai Health's philanthropic efforts, has partnered with Positive Zero to significantly cut carbon emissions and energy costs. This collaboration aligns with the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050. The agreement, a first in the UAE healthcare sector, covers clean energy aspects like on-site power generation, energy efficiency, and clean mobility.

The partnership includes developing a five-year sustainability roadmap. This plan will identify optimal decarbonization methods across the foundation’s premises using fully financed solutions. These measures aim to achieve up to 50 percent cost savings and reduce carbon emissions by 70 percent.

Decarbonisation Pact Signed

Positive Zero will assess current operations to enhance efficiency and optimize energy consumption through cooling-as-a-service. They will also provide clean mobility solutions such as fleet electrification and EV charging infrastructure at Al Jalila Foundation Headquarters.

This agreement follows a successful pilot project at Al Jalila Foundation. Positive Zero’s distributed solar energy business, SirajPower, installed a solar rooftop and car park. These systems were commissioned in December 2023 and are maintained through a 20-year solar lease agreement, reducing over 3100 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.

The Dubai government recently updated its guidelines for public and private sectors to improve energy consumption and efficiency as outlined in the Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy 2050. This partnership aligns with these directives.

Leadership Statements

Dr. Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, stated, "We are one of the first non-profit organizations in the region taking serious steps towards sustainability. As a result of installing the solar rooftop and carport systems, we have enhanced our clean energy operations and seen a significant drop in our electricity bills. Today, we are signing a long-term decarbonization plan with Positive Zero that will realize even more environmental and economic benefits. We look forward to our continued partnership and supporting Dubai Health’s wider sustainability goals."

David Auriau, Co-Founder and CEO of Positive Zero said, "Our inaugural project with Al Jalila Foundation demonstrated that delivering distributed solar generation with no upfront investment can quickly deliver significant savings and reduced carbon emissions. By adding energy efficiency and clean mobility solutions, the foundation will further accelerate their sustainability targets and the country’s Net Zero mission."

Future Collaboration

Positive Zero will continue collaborating closely with Al Jalila Foundation to explore additional ways to generate greater energy savings through its integrated platform. Their complete Decarbonization-as-a-Service aims to support both environmental benefits and economic gains for the foundation.

This partnership marks a significant step towards achieving sustainability goals within the UAE healthcare sector while contributing to broader national objectives.
