Al Jalila Foundation And Landmark Group Introduce Health Initiative For Blue-Collar Workers Focused On Diabetes Awareness

Al Jalila Foundation, the charitable branch of Dubai Health, has initiated a health and wellness programme for blue-collar workers. This effort is in collaboration with Landmark Group's Beat Diabetes programme and the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai. The campaign started with screenings on 4th and 5th November at a labour camp in Al Quoz.

The initiative's primary goal is to enhance diabetes awareness and encourage early detection through complimentary medical screenings. Over 200 workers received checks for blood sugar, blood pressure, and BMI. The Wellness on Wheels mobile clinic facilitated these screenings, offering preventive advice and consultations with support from Lions Clubs International – Middle East volunteers.

Health Initiative for Blue-Collar Workers Launched

Healthy snack boxes from VIVA, Landmark Group’s discount grocer, were distributed to participants. This was to emphasise the importance of balanced nutrition. An educational setup was also present, featuring sessions on diabetes prevention supported by informative materials to engage attendees effectively.

Dr Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, stated, "Access to healthcare is a fundamental right for everyone. Through Wellness on Wheels, we bring healthcare directly to those who need it most, offering knowledge, early diagnosis and continued support. Our partnership with Landmark Group highlights the impact of collective action in advancing health and wellbeing."

Nisha Jagtiani, Group Director at Landmark Group, expressed their dedication by saying, "Through Beat Diabetes, we have been committed to community health for over 15 years. This partnership allows us to extend our support to workers who contribute significantly to the nation’s progress, including long-term treatment for those identified as diabetic."

She highlighted that early screening and education are crucial in preventing and managing diabetes. The programme signifies a long-term commitment to nurturing a healthier community through informed choices.

Extensive Outreach Efforts

This collaboration marks the beginning of an extensive outreach programme targeting blue-collar workers. It focuses on preventive education, early detection, and accessible healthcare services. Since 2009, Landmark Group’s Beat Diabetes initiative has aided communities across the GCC and India through awareness campaigns and free screenings.

The programme collaborates with leading healthcare institutions annually contributing to the UAE’s National Diabetes and Wellbeing strategies. This ongoing effort underscores the importance of collective action in promoting public health.
