15th Al Dhafra Water Festival to Showcase Maritime Heritage and Emirati Culture in 2024
Under the esteemed patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the 15th edition of the Al Dhafra Water Festival is set to captivate attendees from 16-25 February 2024. Hosted at Al Mugheira Beach in the Al Dhafra Region, this event is a collaborative effort by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club. The festival is a vibrant celebration of both traditional and contemporary maritime activities, underscoring the pivotal role of maritime heritage in Abu Dhabi and its sustainability.
The festival's lineup is diverse, featuring the Marawah Dhow Sailing Race (43ft), Tafrees (pole boat) traditional race, Al Mugheira traditional rowing race, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, Al Dhafra Regatta, Salaha sailing race, and Jananah Dhow Sailing Race (22ft). Additionally, attendees can engage in carrom, dominoes, cycling, running, beach soccer, beach volleyball, and traditional games such as Karrabi, Dahroy, Shaa, and Mutareh. A highlight of the festival is its traditional market open daily from 16:00 to 22:00, offering an immersive experience into Emirati maritime and desert heritage through a variety of local and Gulf heritage products.

The market not only showcases various shops but also features the Noukhatha House and a dedicated Children's Village. The festival atmosphere is further enriched with folk fashion shows, cooking competitions, traditional handicrafts, and a performance stage hosting daily quizzes with prizes. This wide array of events caters to different age groups and interests.
Government and private organisations are represented through numerous pavilions at the market. Entertainment options include performances by the Abu Dhabi Folklore troupe, live concerts, equestrian shows, and a diverse culinary experience at the food court with food trucks and fast-food outlets. For outdoor enthusiasts, a dedicated camping area for recreational vehicles (RVs) is available.
