H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan met a delegation from the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy to review major energy and water projects in the Al Dhafra Region. The discussion focused on how these projects support population growth, development needs and long-term resource sustainability.
The delegation was led by Dr. Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Department, who outlined ongoing and planned initiatives. The meeting examined how strategic programmes in the energy and water sectors aim to secure reliable services for individuals, businesses and companies across the region.
During the briefing, officials presented the Department’s priorities and plans for the next phase. They highlighted efforts to improve operational readiness, increase efficiency in energy and water services, and align infrastructure with expected demographic and economic expansion in Al Dhafra and the wider emirate.
Development plans for the broader energy and water sector system were also reviewed. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan underlined the need for coordinated action among all relevant entities. That coordination is intended to maintain high service standards over the long term, consistent with approved regulations and international best practices.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan stated that the coming phase required more intensive efforts to enhance future readiness in energy and water. The discussion covered more flexible operating models, the wider use of smart solutions, and the deployment of advanced technologies to manage critical services.
The meeting also addressed how these approaches support the UAE’s shift toward a knowledge-based economy. Participants noted that increased efficiency in the energy and water sectors helps balance development priorities with the protection of natural resources, reflecting national directions and policy goals.
Energy and water sustainability and national strategies
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan linked these initiatives to national frameworks, particularly the UAE Energy Strategy 2050. The strategy aims to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility, while encouraging sustainable energy and water use and supporting the country’s long-term development agenda.
Members of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy reaffirmed their commitment to work closely with partners to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the integrated energy and water system.
