Al-Baha's Rural Farms Thrive As Agritourism Hubs, Enhancing Local Economy

Al-Baha Region's rural farms are gaining popularity among tourists from Saudi Arabia and beyond. These 23 licensed farms offer a mix of serene countryside charm and modern amenities, creating a unique experience. The growth in this sector is driven by investments in agriculture and tourism, supported by a national initiative to develop rural areas and promote heritage tourism.

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has played a significant role in this expansion. They have distributed 15,000 seedlings of crops with comparative advantages, such as blackberries, pistachios, saffron, roses, and strawberries. Additionally, seven demonstration fields have been established as successful models for other farms to emulate.

Al-Baha's Rural Farms Boost Agritourism

These rural farms contribute significantly to the local economy by attracting investment in non-traditional tourism. Al-Baha's unique agricultural and geographical features make it an ideal location for this type of tourism. The ministry plans to increase the number of licensed farms from 23 to 50 across the region's governorates.

Agritourism activities are a major draw for visitors. Tourists can engage in fruit picking, livestock care, and tree planting. These activities provide an immersive experience that combines authentic rural hospitality with the rich cultural heritage of the region.

The ministry has launched five agritourism workshops alongside entrepreneurial training sessions for farm owners. These initiatives aim to enhance the skills of rural farmers and improve their ability to attract tourists. Additionally, 25 workshops on licensing procedures have been conducted to streamline the process for farm owners.

Visitors to these farms can enjoy local cuisine, explore handicrafts, and participate in social traditions. The farms also offer a variety of fresh agricultural products during the summer months. Fruits such as grapes, figs, apricots, pomegranates, blackberries, prickly pears, and peaches are abundant.

Future Expansion Plans

The ministry has conducted 114 field visits to facilitate agricultural licensing processes further. This proactive approach ensures that more farms can be licensed efficiently. The goal is to create a sustainable model that benefits both farmers and tourists alike.

Al-Baha's rural farms offer an unforgettable experience that blends nature with culture. As more farms become licensed and operational, they will continue to attract visitors seeking a unique blend of tranquility and adventure.
