Al Abr Road Expansion By SDRPY Enhances Mobility For Over 11 Million People In Yemen
The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has been instrumental in enhancing transportation across Yemen. By improving land, sea, and air routes, the program aims to boost daily life, social ties, and economic activities in Yemeni governorates. Key projects include airport rehabilitation, road improvements, port capacity expansion, and efficient border crossings. These initiatives have significantly improved mobility and infrastructure while ensuring safe transportation for people.
One of the major projects under SDRPY is the expansion of Al Abr Road. This highway is crucial as it connects Saudi Arabia with Yemen, serving over 11 million people. It plays a vital role in transporting goods and facilitating travel between various Yemeni regions. The road's development ensures safe mobility and strengthens connections between cities.

The program also focuses on rehabilitating internal roads to improve traffic flow and access to essential services like health and education. In Aden Governorate, four roads—Abyan Coast Road, Caltex-Al-Haswa Road, Shahinaz Road, and 90 Road—are being upgraded. These efforts aim to enhance safety and accessibility to commercial facilities, thereby improving residents' quality of life.
Another significant project is the rehabilitation of Heijat Al-Abed Road. This route is vital for connecting Taiz Governorate with other regions, benefiting five million Yemenis. The road's enhancement contributes to safer travel conditions and better road safety.
SDRPY has undertaken projects to enhance road efficiency by rehabilitating around 150 kilometers of roads across Yemen. In Al Ghaydah District alone, more than 20 kilometers of internal roads have been improved. These upgrades address pavement issues and enhance surface layers, leading to smoother traffic flow and reduced accidents.
In Socotra, the program has focused on managing rainwater runoff and improving traffic flow through stone paving that aligns with the island's natural geography. This initiative not only enhances transportation but also preserves Socotra's unique environment.
Comprehensive Development Efforts
The SDRPY has implemented 264 projects across eight key sectors: education, health, transportation, energy, water, agriculture, fisheries, and development. These initiatives benefit various Yemeni governorates by addressing diverse needs and fostering overall growth.
The comprehensive approach taken by SDRPY in Yemen's transportation sector highlights its commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity. By focusing on strategic routes like Al Abr Road and internal roads in key areas such as Aden Governorate and Socotra Island, the program ensures enhanced mobility for millions of Yemenis.
