Ajman Unveils Zero Carbon Schools Initiative To Foster Sustainability

The Ajman Municipality and Planning Department recently unveiled its ambitious "Zero Carbon Schools" initiative, a significant step towards sustainability and environmental responsibility in the UAE. This initiative, launched by H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Executive Council, during the Ajman 7th International Environment Conference, aims to align with the UAE's vision of achieving carbon neutrality and net zero emissions by 2050.

Eng. Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of Public Health and Environment at the Department, emphasized the initiative's focus on cultivating a positive environmental mindset among students. "Our initiative was drafted with lofty aspirations to engage schools in minimising their carbon footprints and striving for net zero emissions. This endeavour not only assists in reducing emissions but also improves conditions at schools and mitigates their environmental impacts," he stated.

Ajman's Zero Carbon Schools Plan

The "Zero Carbon Schools" initiative is set to transform educational institutions into eco-friendly hubs. By prioritizing energy efficiency and the adoption of renewable energy sources, the initiative aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance air quality. The implementation of green practices is at the heart of this transformative project.

Al Hosani further highlighted the critical role schools play in promoting environmental sustainability. The initiative encourages a variety of measures to achieve its goals, including the installation of solar panels for power generation, upgrading cooling and HVAC systems for enhanced energy efficiency, and fostering responsible resource use and effective waste management from the source.

This comprehensive approach not only aims at reducing the carbon footprint of schools but also serves as an educational tool for students, instilling in them the values of sustainability and environmental stewardship from a young age. Through such initiatives, the UAE continues to demonstrate its commitment to a sustainable future, setting an example for other nations to follow in the global fight against climate change.
