Ajman Municipality Receives Seven-Star Rating For Innovative Waste Management At IBPC 2025
Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, was awarded a certificate for the 11th International Best Practices Competition (IBPC 2025). The Department earned a seven-star rating for its Smart and Sustainable Waste Data Management Platform. This initiative recognises exceptional management and development innovations across various sectors.
The platform utilises modern technology like IoT and artificial intelligence to revolutionise waste management. It aims to support decision-making while reducing environmental impact. Sheikh Rashid highlighted that this achievement aligns with the Department's vision of transforming waste management into a smart and sustainable model.

Dr. Eng. Khalid Moeen Al Hosani briefed Sheikh Rashid on the platform's capabilities. It collects comprehensive data on waste types, monitors waste flows in real-time, calculates carbon emissions automatically, and uses interactive maps to show waste quantities and categories. These insights help decision-makers improve operational efficiency.
The competition used specific evaluation criteria set by international experts. Initiatives were rated from one to seven stars, with seven stars representing the highest level of global excellence and innovation. Dr. Eng. Al Hosani explained that this rating reflects the platform's outstanding performance.
The certification underscores Ajman's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence. It bolsters efforts to promote smart solutions for future generations while supporting ongoing initiatives to implement circular economy principles within a sustainable framework.
Sheikh Rashid received the certificate at his office from representatives of the granting entity. Present at the ceremony were Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director-General of the Department, Dr. Eng. Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of Public Health and Environment at the Department, along with several officials and experts from both entities.
This recognition adds to the Department’s extensive record of successes in various fields. Sheikh Rashid noted that they participated in the 2025 Global Award, attracting entities worldwide. The achievement strengthens Ajman’s Smart City 2030 vision in line with the UAE’s National Sustainability Agenda.
