Ajman Secures Spot In UNESCO Global Network Of Learning Cities
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) recently welcomed the Emirate of Ajman into its Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC), marking a significant milestone for the UAE in its pursuit of educational excellence. This inclusion positions Ajman alongside 356 cities globally, underlining its dedication to lifelong learning and the exchange of innovative educational strategies among member cities to enhance the quality of education.
Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture, highlighted that Ajman's acceptance into the GNLC underscores the UAE's commitment to establishing a premier learning infrastructure. This achievement reflects the concerted efforts in adopting comprehensive and sustainable education strategies within Ajman. The Minister elaborated on the Ministry of Culture's role in supporting Ajman’s candidacy through the National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, which played a pivotal role in coordinating with UNESCO and ensuring Ajman's successful nomination.

The selection of Ajman as a GNLC member follows an extensive preparation process by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Ajman, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture. This process involved showcasing the collaborative efforts of various educational bodies within the emirate to promote inclusive learning through sustainable practices. Such initiatives aim to foster an educational culture that encourages societal participation and contributes to social cohesion and prosperity.
Dr. Saeed Saif Al Matrooshi, Secretary-General of the Ajman Executive Council, expressed that joining the GNLC aligns with Ajman government’s directives to enhance educational opportunities for all citizens. This move supports individual empowerment, social integration, and sustainable development goals. Dr. Al Matrooshi emphasized that this membership would bolster Ajman’s vision to cultivate an educated generation and a skilled workforce, ready to tackle future challenges through lifelong learning.
Ajman’s contribution to the GNLC will include participating in international events, sharing experiences, and launching innovative educational initiatives. These efforts are aimed at significantly advancing lifelong learning and sustainable development on a global scale. The GNLC network promotes comprehensive education across all levels, encourages family and community learning, facilitates workplace learning, and supports the use of modern educational technologies to improve learning quality.
The GNLC serves as an international platform for knowledge exchange, peer learning, and capacity building among its members. Through this network, cities like Ajman can share strategies and practices related to lifelong learning with other member cities, addressing key challenges and exploring solutions together. This collaborative environment offers members opportunities for training and participation in regional and global events, further enhancing their educational landscapes.
With its inclusion in the GNLC, Ajman joins other Emirates such as Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah in this prestigious network. This membership not only highlights the UAE's dedication to educational development but also sets a precedent for other cities aiming to enhance their learning environments through international collaboration and innovation.
