UAE: Ajman Government Implements 100% Remote Work On Fridays During Ramadan
In a move to adhere to the UAE's "Year of Community" initiatives, the Ajman Government's Department of Human Resources has declared a complete transition to remote work for local government employees on Fridays throughout Ramadan. This decision is part of a broader effort to foster a supportive community environment during the holy month.
Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Ajman Executive Council, the new policy aims to align with national efforts to enhance the well-being of the community and its workers. The announcement signifies a significant shift in working practices, demonstrating a commitment to adapting to the needs of the moment while still ensuring the effectiveness of government operations.

The department's circular specifies the official working hours for the Ramadan period, setting them from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm, from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, the hours will adjust to a morning schedule from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, facilitating observance of Ramadan practices while maintaining productivity levels.
To accommodate the unique requirements of various departments, especially those operating around the clock or on a shift basis, the circular provides guidelines for adjusting working hours. These adjustments ensure that operational needs are met without compromising service delivery, with a cap on shift durations at five and a half hours per day.
Moreover, the policy introduces a degree of flexibility at the discretion of the Director-General, allowing for a tailored approach to work schedules. This flexibility ensures that while employees fulfill their required working hours, there is also adequate staffing within customer-facing units. The aim is to keep service efficiency at its peak, even with the transition to remote work and adjusted schedules during Ramadan.
This initiative underscores the Ajman Government's dedication to ensuring uninterrupted service delivery and business continuity, despite the change in working conditions. It also reflects a broader trend within the UAE to embrace flexible working arrangements as part of efforts to improve work-life balance and community welfare.
