UAE's Future Innovators: Khalifa University's Al Nokhba And Tumooh Graduates Celebrated
Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, attended the graduation ceremony for the sixth cohort of UAE National Service and Reserve Authority (NSRA) recruits. This event also marked the graduation of the second batch of the Tumooh programme at Khalifa University of Science and Technology.
The recruits were honoured for completing their rigorous training in various advanced technology fields. Senior officials from NSRA, including Brigadier Khalifa Hamad Khalifa Al Kaabi, Chief of NSRA, and Brigadier-General Obaid Ali Al-Mansoori, Director of Information and Corporate Communication at NSRA, attended the ceremony alongside other dignitaries and guests.
Dr. Yousof A. Alhammadi, Senior Vice-President and Acting Academic and Student Services at Khalifa University, expressed pride in graduating the sixth cohort of Al Nokhba and the second batch of Tumooh recruits. He stated: "Khalifa University is proud to graduate the sixth cohort of the Al Nokhba and the second batch of Tumooh recruits and empower the next generation of innovators, professionals, and industry leaders in the UAE’s strategic sectors."
Launched in 2019 by Khalifa University in partnership with NSRA, the Al Nokhba and Tumooh programmes have established a strong alumni network. The 2024 programme saw Al Nokhba recruits complete various training courses, research projects, and specific assignments.
In January 2024, a group of Al Nokhba-NSRs showcased several innovations such as drones and underwater robots at the sixth edition of the Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) and Simulation and Training Exhibition (SIMTEX) conference. These projects were developed with support from Khalifa University faculty and researchers.
The Al Nokhba graduates worked on diverse projects including a multipurpose climbing robot, advanced drones requiring minimal human intervention, ‘Simulation of Autonomous Car’, ‘Autonomous Vehicle Platform & Communication’, textile waste recycling using fungus, and an energy-efficient water desalination method.
Tumooh Programme's Role
The Tumooh programme for high school graduates offers a platform for deep learning in scientific and technical fields. Participants engage in technical courses facilitated by professional development sessions from the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), along with introductory research visits coordinated by various Research Centers.
Participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for academic growth. The programme helps them explore innovation through hands-on experience in scientific domains.
Commitment to Youth Development
Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmed emphasised that empowering youth has always been a priority for UAE’s leadership. He said that investing in youth has been a consistent approach since UAE's establishment in the 1970s. He praised innovations from national service recruits under programmes like Al Nokhba and Tamouh that serve both country and citizens.
The Al Nokhba programme prepares university graduates for postgraduate studies while enabling them to represent UAE internationally. It also involves them in research activities where they publish their findings.
The graduates developed technologies addressing telecommunication issues with a real-time algorithm capable of handling various datasets efficiently using intelligent systems.
This graduation event highlighted UAE’s ongoing efforts to invest in its youth through education and innovation-focused programmes like Al Nokhba and Tumooh.
