Ahmed Bin Saeed Approves AED 313 Million Expansion For RIT Dubai Campus At Dubai Silicon Oasis

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), has given the green light for the second phase of expansion at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Dubai University campus. Located in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), a hub for knowledge and innovation, this project will significantly enhance the educational infrastructure. The expansion is valued at over AED313 million and will increase the campus size by 217 percent.

The development will add 85,000 square metres to the existing campus, boosting its capacity by 115 percent to accommodate around 4,500 students. This project involves constructing nine new academic and administrative buildings, alongside modern educational and support facilities. The first phase is expected to finish by Q1 2027, with full completion anticipated by Q3 2028.

Expansion of RIT Dubai Campus Approved

DIEZ's strategic expansion aligns with Dubai's broader vision to elevate higher education quality and foster an integrated academic ecosystem. It also supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan initiated by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This plan aims to transform Dubai into a leading city globally in terms of quality of life and sustainable development.

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed emphasised that investments in higher education highlight Dubai's commitment to nurturing a forward-thinking educational environment. This initiative strengthens its position as a global hub for knowledge and innovation, aligning with technological transformations and enhancing competitiveness in scientific research.

The expansion will be executed in two phases, each covering 61,000 square metres. The first phase includes two academic buildings for Science and Arts and Business Administration departments, two administrative buildings, a student centre, dining hall, and parking facility. The new parking structure will increase capacity by 150 percent to meet growing demand.

The second phase will establish the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering along with advanced applied science labs, collaborative research spaces, lecture halls, sports facilities, and a library. These additions aim to set new benchmarks in higher education through five integrated academic centres focused on research and development.

Focus on Innovation and Research

Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, stated that RIT Dubai's expansion reinforces DSO as a premier hub for innovation and education. It aligns with transforming universities into free economic zones supporting specialised research programmes that meet global digital economy demands.

"This expansion will offer students a fully integrated academic environment equipped with state-of-the-art smart facilities," he added. "It fosters scientific research, innovation, and digital transformation across various fields." This growth accelerates Dubai’s development towards a sustainable economy driven by future talents.

Commitment to Advanced Academic Programmes

Dr. Yousef Al Assaf, President of RIT Dubai, highlighted that this expansion meets rising demand for advanced academic programmes. "This supports RIT Dubai’s mission to supply vital sectors with talent needed for the digital economy," he said. Since its inception in 2008, RIT Dubai has been integral to higher education across GCC and Middle East regions.

Aligned with Dubai’s vision for a knowledge-based economy, RIT Dubai is committed to developing programmes in emerging fields like data science and AI. This enhances RIT’s role in equipping the region’s digital economy with skilled professionals ready for future challenges.

A Legacy of Academic Excellence

RIT Dubai is part of the prestigious Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York with nearly 200 years of excellence. Offering American-accredited degrees recognised by UAE Ministry of Higher Education, students can study at RIT's main campus or international branches for enriched experiences.

The institute features state-of-the-art labs dedicated to pioneering research in AI, cybersecurity, robotics, and smart energy. It continues strengthening its role as an innovation hub aligned with Dubai’s vision of becoming a global leader in knowledge economy.

This significant growth not only meets increasing demand but also reinforces RIT Dubai’s commitment to providing world-class education within a vibrant academic community.
