Global Logistics Forum 2024 Concludes With Over SAR 16 Billion In Agreements And Partnerships

The first Global Logistics Forum 2024, organised by the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, took place in Riyadh from October 12 to 14. The event concluded with the signing of over 65 agreements and memoranda of understanding, valued at more than SAR 16 billion. This significant gathering attracted more than 130 experts and leaders in the transport and logistics sector, alongside 13,000 visitors.

Among the attendees were over 15 ministers and 77 industry leaders from more than 30 countries. The forum was inaugurated by Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services. It served as a platform for discussing opportunities and challenges in creating a sustainable logistics sector by unifying ecosystem partners to enhance efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability.

Several important agreements were announced during the forum. The Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, along with the Ministry of Investment, revealed collaborations with companies such as FedEx, Pacific International Lines (PIL), and the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani). These partnerships aim to strengthen Saudi Arabia's logistics capabilities.

The Transport General Authority (TGA) signed a memorandum of understanding with Egypt's Ministry of Transport to boost maritime linkage cooperation between the two nations. Additionally, agreements were made with NUPCO to establish new regional centres for medical supplies distribution.

Agility Logistics announced plans to expand its warehouses in Saudi Arabia through a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR). Saudia Cargo also formed a new partnership with Cluster 2 Airports to improve air freight services. These developments are part of efforts to align with the Kingdom’s industrial transformation goals.

The forum highlighted Saudi Arabia's strategic location between three continents, emphasising its role in global trade security. Its proximity to key international markets makes it an ideal hub for international discussions on logistics industry expansion.

Focus on Education and Training

New scholarship and training initiatives were unveiled during the event. These initiatives aim to equip individuals with skills necessary for advancing the logistics sector. Participants shared insights on topics like global trade route security, modern innovations' impact on the sector's future, and supply chain speed in a rapidly changing world.

The forum underscored Saudi Arabia's expanding logistics capabilities. It showcased how these factors contribute to making the Kingdom an attractive destination for hosting international discussions on logistics development.

Future Directions

At the forum's conclusion, participants stressed enhancing international cooperation to tackle challenges affecting global supply chains. They highlighted ensuring maritime navigation freedom and safety while maintaining uninterrupted sea, air, rail, and land freight flow as crucial objectives.

Governments and private sectors were urged to invest more in developing logistics infrastructure. Special emphasis was placed on projects connecting South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe to bolster regional connectivity.

This inaugural edition of the Global Logistics Forum set a strong foundation for future events aimed at fostering collaboration among global transport leaders while addressing pressing issues within the industry.
