Sharjah Media Council And Economic Development Department Sign Agreement To Streamline Media Licensing Process
H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council (SMC), attended a significant agreement signing between the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) and the SMC. This agreement, signed at the SEDD headquarters, aims to simplify commercial media licensing in Sharjah through a single-window policy.
The agreement was formalised by Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Chairman of SEDD, and Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of SMC. It seeks to modernise the licensing process by streamlining procedures for investors and stakeholders. The collaboration aims to enhance service efficiency and reduce bureaucracy through improved coordination.
This cooperation involves issuing, renewing, cancelling, and transferring media-related commercial licences. It also includes sharing information on licence approvals and organising joint workshops. Both parties will provide mutual support and consultation to ensure smooth operations under this agreement.
Legal clauses within the agreement detail each party's responsibilities, including duration, financial commitments, intellectual property rights, communication protocols, and amendment terms. These clauses ensure clarity in roles and expectations for both entities involved.
During the event, H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed reviewed a presentation on media licensing indicators in Sharjah. The data revealed 799 media licences covering 124 economic activities with a 5% growth in total licences projected for 2024. This growth highlights the sector's expanding influence in the region.
Additionally, H.H. Sheikh Sultan received insights into areas where the Department of Economic Development plans to strengthen cooperation with strategic partners. The focus is on enhancing business practices and supporting entrepreneurship within the media sector.
Technological Advancements
On the sidelines of the agreement signing, H.H. Sheikh Sultan toured various departments to observe new digital systems aimed at improving customer services. These systems are designed to streamline processing times and reduce documentation requirements significantly.
The tour also included an examination of advanced monitoring systems that aid decision-making through automated reports and smart inspection tools. These tools provide detailed insights into active and expired licences by location, helping manage inspector allocation effectively.
Commercial Protection Efforts
The visit concluded with an exhibition showcasing original and counterfeit goods. H.H. Sheikh Sultan was briefed on efforts in commercial protection, including counterfeit detection and handling complaints. Inspection campaigns aim to safeguard intellectual property rights for licensed companies in Sharjah.
This comprehensive approach ensures that businesses operate within legal frameworks while protecting their innovations from infringement.
