AGDA Joins Forces With Finn Church Aid To Elevate Humanitarian Diplomacy
The Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), a prominent diplomatic centre in the UAE, has formalised a partnership with Finn Church Aid (FCA), Finland’s largest international aid organisation. This collaboration was cemented through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Nickolay Mladenov, Director-General of AGDA, and Dr. Ikali Karvinen, FCA’s Deputy Executive Director.
The signing ceremony took place during AGDA leadership’s week-long visit to Finland, at the invitation of FCA. The event was attended by Amna Mahmoud Fikri, Ambassador of the UAE to the Republic of Finland. The MoU aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise in areas such as development policy, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.

Nickolay Mladenov emphasised the importance of this partnership for AGDA’s mission. "At AGDA, our mission is to equip our students with unparalleled knowledge and skills, grooming them for leadership roles in diplomacy. Partnerships, such as this MoU with Finn Church Aid, are essential to enriching our academic environment with global expertise and fostering international research collaboration," he stated.
Mladenov highlighted the value of FCA’s work with vulnerable populations in fragile regions. He noted that their insights would significantly enhance AGDA’s training programmes, empowering future diplomats to navigate and address pressing global challenges effectively.
Dr. Ikali Karvinen echoed these sentiments, noting the increasing complexity of diplomatic roles. "The role of diplomats is increasingly challenging, requiring global knowledge and skills and a deep local contextual understanding," he said.
Karvinen expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with AGDA. "FCA is excited about the opportunity to work together with AGDA, a leading diplomatic academy. We commend AGDA’s efforts to train diplomats on solving pressing development challenges in the most fragile contexts of the world," he added.
Focus Areas of Collaboration
The MoU outlines several key areas for collaboration between AGDA and FCA. These include development policy, peacebuilding initiatives, and sustainable development projects. Both organisations aim to leverage their respective strengths to foster a robust exchange of knowledge and best practices.
This partnership is expected to provide AGDA students with unique insights into global issues and enhance their ability to address complex challenges in their future diplomatic careers. The collaboration also underscores AGDA’s commitment to integrating international perspectives into its curriculum.
Future Prospects
The agreement between AGDA and FCA marks a significant step towards enhancing diplomatic education through international cooperation. By combining their expertise, both institutions aim to contribute meaningfully to global peacebuilding efforts and sustainable development initiatives.
This partnership is poised to enrich the academic environment at AGDA while providing FCA with valuable insights from one of the leading diplomatic academies in the Middle East. The mutual exchange of knowledge and expertise will undoubtedly benefit both organisations as they work towards common goals.
