Advanced Manufacturing Drives Saudi Arabia's Industrial Transformation Under Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia's industrial sector is experiencing a significant transformation, driven by national programs aimed at creating a competitive and sustainable economy. This shift aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, focusing on economic diversification and strengthening industry as a key economic pillar. The National Industrial Strategy has been pivotal in this transformation, particularly through initiatives like the "Future Factories" program. This initiative aims to convert 4,000 traditional factories into smart manufacturing plants that meet global standards. Advanced manufacturing technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and 3D printing are central to these efforts. These technologies enhance production efficiency, boost competitiveness, and foster innovation.

AI plays a crucial role in improving quality control and productivity in factories. IoT facilitates integrated systems for real-time management of energy and resources while monitoring supply chains. Additionally, 3D printing accelerates product development, reduces inventory reliance, and shortens supply chains. These technologies are not just complementary but strategic tools reshaping the industrial landscape.

Domestically, data from the General Authority for Statistics highlights the positive impact of this transformation on the industrial sector's performance. In July 2025, the Industrial Production Index (IPI) increased by 6.5% compared to the previous year. This growth was driven by manufacturing activities that convert raw materials into high-value products, underscoring the direct impact of industrial development programs on competitiveness and efficiency.

The ministry's initiatives reflect a strong commitment to adopting advanced manufacturing technologies across industrial and mining sectors. A rapid digital transformation is underway, supported by digital infrastructure development and accelerated adoption of AI, IoT, and robotics applications. These technologies are revolutionising all stages of operations from product design to logistics automation.

The Industrial Transformation Saudi Arabia exhibition will take place in Riyadh in December 2025 under the patronage of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources. Organized by Deutsche Messe and Riyadh Exhibitions Company, this event will showcase advanced manufacturing applications and foster international partnerships for technology transfer and localization.
