ADNOC Pro League And ADIB Cup Draws Set The Stage For 2024-2025 Football Season

The draws for the ADNOC Pro League and the ADIB Cup for the 2024-2025 season took place on Saturday, 6th July, at the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre. The event commenced with the draw for the ADIB Cup, which utilised artificial intelligence technology via the OPEN AI programme for the second consecutive year, aligning with the UAE's AI Strategy 2031.

Before the draw, a brief explanation of the ADIB Cup format and draw mechanism was provided. Twelve teams will participate in the first round, playing knockout matches to advance to the quarter-finals. They will join Al Wasl, the defending champions of the ADNOC Pro League, and Al Wahda, holders of the ADIB Cup.

The cup competition format includes home and away matches in both the quarter-finals and semifinals. The final will be held at a neutral venue decided by the UAE Pro League. The ADIB Cup draw resulted in these first-round matchups: Bani Yas vs. Dibba Al-Hisn, Kalba vs. Al Ain, Al Jazira vs. Al Bataeh, Khorfakkan vs. Sharjah, Shabab Al Ahli vs. Ajman, and Al Orooba vs. Al Nasr.

Following the cup draw, the ADNOC Pro League 2024-2025 season draw was conducted using an "electronic draw" system. This system has been in use since the 2021-2022 season as part of the league's 2020-2030 strategy to enhance professional competitions and align with the UAE's smart government vision.

The smart draw mechanism considered various criteria such as sports integrity and match distribution based on last season's rankings. It also balanced key and high-attendance matches while scheduling within the same emirate and accommodating clubs' external commitments. Additionally, it avoided scheduling more than two matches in one city on a single day.

The ADNOC Pro League draw outlined 26 matchweeks starting on August 23rd. The first matchweek features fixtures like Kalba vs. Al Wasl, Bani Yas vs. Al Jazira, Shabab Al Ahli vs. Al Bataeh, Al Ain vs. Khorfakkan, Al Wahda vs. Ajman, Al Orooba vs. Al Nasr, and Dibba Al-Hisn vs. Sharjah.

Key Fixtures in Early Matchweeks

In matchweek two, notable fixtures include Al Jazira facing Al Orooba and Al Nasr playing Bani Yas. Other games are: Al Wasl meeting Dibba Al-Hisn; Khorfakkan against Al Wahda; Sharjah playing Kalba; Ajman taking on Shabab Al Ahli; and Al Bataeh facing Al Ain.

The third matchweek includes highly anticipated matches such as Shabab Al Ahli vs. Al Wahda and Sharjah vs. Al Jazira. Other fixtures are: Kalba vs. Al Ain; Bani Yas vs. Ajman; Al Orooba vs. Khorfakkan; and Dibba Al-Hisn vs. Al Bataeh.

Matchweek four will feature a top clash between "Asian Champions" Al Ain and "League Champions" Al Wasl while other games include: Ajman hosting Dibba-Al Hisn; Khorfakkan facing Kalba; Shabab-Al Ahli against Sharjah; Bani Yas playing Ajman; and Dibba-Al Hisn versus Bataeh.

The fifth matchweek will spotlight a "Clasico" between rivals: "Al Ain" versus "Al Wahda." In matchweek six there is a major game between Shabab-Al Ahli & Sharjah while matchweek seven includes top matches such as: "Al Ain" against "Shabab-Al Ahli"; "Al Wasl" versus "Al Jazira"; & "Al Nasr" against "Al Wahda."
