ADNOC Partners With Technip Energies On Pioneering Low-Carbon LNG Project In Ruwais

ADNOC, a leading name in the energy sector, has taken a significant step towards enhancing its liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capabilities. The company has initiated early engineering, procurement, and construction activities for its low-carbon LNG project situated in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi. This initiative is being carried out by a joint venture led by Technip Energies, alongside JGC Corporation and National Petroleum Construction Company PJSC. With an anticipated Final Investment Decision (FID) later this year, this project marks a pivotal development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region's energy landscape.

The Ruwais LNG project is poised to become the first LNG export facility within the MENA region to utilize clean power. This strategic move positions the facility among the world’s LNG plants with the lowest carbon intensity. Fatema Al Nuaimi, Executive Vice President of Downstream Business Management at ADNOC, highlighted the project's significance. She noted that it would bolster ADNOC’s reputation as a dependable global natural gas supplier while playing a crucial role in global energy security. Additionally, the project is expected to have a substantial economic impact on the Al Dhafra region by enhancing the local industrial ecosystem, attracting further investments, and establishing a critical energy trade gateway in Al Ruwais Industrial City.

ADNOC's New Low-Carbon LNG Project in Ruwais

Upon completion, the Ruwais LNG project will feature two liquefaction trains, each with a capacity of 4.8 million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa), culminating in a total capacity of 9.6mmtpa. This expansion will more than double ADNOC’s current LNG production capacity from 6mmtpa to approximately 15mmtpa. The emphasis on natural gas as a key transition fuel underscores ADNOC’s dedication to decarbonisation and sustainability efforts. Through innovation and strategic planning, the low-carbon LNG project in Al Ruwais Industrial City demonstrates ADNOC’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while meeting global energy demands.

This initiative not only signifies a leap towards cleaner energy production but also reinforces ADNOC's position at the forefront of sustainable energy development. The Ruwais LNG project is set to make significant contributions to both local and global energy markets, ensuring that ADNOC continues to meet the evolving needs of its customers worldwide with a focus on environmental stewardship.
